Obituary

Sylvia Lea Claire Moreau, 84, died peacefully after a long-term illness surrounded by her loving family on August 13, 2020 at Seal Rock in Saco. Sylvia was a stroke survivor of seven years. Born in Biddeford on February 24, 1936 she was the beloved daughter of Willie and Lea Plessis.

Sylvia was educated by the Biddeford Public School System, she graduated from Biddeford High School in 1955. Sylvia met the love of her life, Richard Moreau, they married on June 27, 1959 they spent 61 beautiful years together. Sylvia was interested in joining the workforce, after trying out a few options, she ultimately joined Corning Life Sciences in Kennebunk. She worked with a team of assembly professionals to provide clients with quality products for many years until her retirement in 1998.

Sylvia was a loving wife and a devoted mother. She and Richard raised their daughter to love and trust in the Lord. She gave her daughter many beautiful moments, the most powerful being that she used her last breath to give her daughter a reassuring smile. Sylvia was passionate about aiding her community through the power of prayer. She often received prayer requests by her fellow church members, she instilled this important duty on her daughter, together they prayed for their friends and strangers alike. Sylvia was a Eucharist Minister for the Saint Martha’s Parish of Kennebunk; she proudly performed these duties until she was physically unable to, but she continued to pray for her community.

Sylvia had an eye for collecting rosaries, her collection was a beautiful illustration of her impassioned love for the Lord and her community. She didn’t just love her family and her religion; she also had a shared passion with her daughter, together they loved and appreciated the beauty of animals. She loved Siamese cats, she valued seeing her “grand-cats” that she affectionately called ‘the boys,’ Mickey and Shadow.

Sylvia loved Maine winters, the mountains and the snow called her in an eerie and beautiful way. She loved watching Hallmark movies with her family, and she always made the Christmas season special. She was always eager to adventure through Maine’s beautiful landscapes, she made sure to always take a moment to appreciate the gifts God had given her whether it was a beautiful purple flower or a breathtaking view. Before Sylvia got sick, she and her husband visited local restaurants for dinners and together they spent time at casinos on the slot machines

Aside from her husband Richard Moreau, Sylvia’s legacy lives on through her daughter and son-in-law; Cynthia and Richard McNally; two beautiful step-grandchildren, Tyler and Kristen and two step-great-grandchildren Ava and Callie.
