Obituary

Shirley A. Beaudoin, formerly of Biddeford, Maine passed away on May 8,2020 at The Inn at Fairview in Hudson, New Hampshire. She was 81 years young and died of natural causes. Shirley was born in Biddeford, Maine on the 27th of December, 1938, to parents Wilber Edgar and Elizabeth (Taylor) Hayford. She was the youngest of six children.

Shirley grew up in Arundel, Maine and attended local schools. She spent her younger educational years, until eighth grade, in a one room school house. She graduated from Thornton Academy in 1957 where she met her high school sweetheart, and  future husband, Joseph Lawrence Feene.  The two were married in Saco, Maine in 1960 and had two children, Laurie and Judith. They were married for only four years before Joseph was tragically killed in a car accident in December of 1964, leaving behind Shirley, their daughters, his mother, Edith and his older brother, Alton.

During her lifetime, Shirley pursued the profession of becoming a secretary and worked for a law firm in Portland. After Joseph’s passing, she moved to Kennebunk and worked many years for the accounting firm of Cummings, Lamont, and Associates. As a young single mother, Shirley built her own home in Kennebunk. Shirley was a talented seamstress who owned her own sewing shop in her home. While she was raising her two daughters, she was a Brownie Girl Scout Leader, a school volunteer and an active participant in the Kennebunk Fresh Air Program. She attended Christ Church and later St. Monica’s Catholic church in Kennebunk.

Shirley loved to garden, bike ride, walk the Bridal Path and spend time at the beach with her family. She loved all animals dearly, and fostered numerous pets including ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits, and the occasional wayward starfish from the beach. She also adopted many animals into her loving home from the animal shelter in West Kennebunk. Her love of the outdoors led to many great adventures, such as blueberry picking on Pleasant Mountain, camping in the summer on Long Lake in Bridgeton, Maine, and traveling to New Mexico, the Midwest, Colonial
Williamsburg, and Florida. She enjoyed the theatre and often planned trips to Boston to see various plays, where she also loved to lunch and shop at Faneuil Hall. Shirley later married Donald Beaudoin, of Saco Maine on June 12, 1998. Donald  passed away in April of 2017. He left behind one daughter, Diana Beaudoin of Massachusetts.  Before retiring in 2004, Shirley worked sales for Holeman in Saco, Maine. Following her retirement, she worked as a receptionist at St. Andre Health Care Facility in Biddeford until 2011. Her smile, infectious laugh, and her wonderful sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters; Laurie Jacques, and her husband Mark, of Florida, and Judith Beckman, and her husband Grant, of New Hampshire. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Alexander, Elizabeth and Patrick Jacques and Megan and Allyson Beckman, and one great grandson, Jackson Potvin. She is predeceased by her parents and her older siblings: Raymond Hayford, Robert Hayford, Winona Kidd, Dorothy Peck and Jean Coughlin.
