Renald Joseph Dion, 84, of Biddeford, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 with his family by his side. He was born on June 11, 1936, son of the late George E. and Melina (Tardif) Dion.
Mr. Dion was educated locally, attending St. Joseph and St. Louis schools. He was called to serve his country in the United States Army, serving from 1959 to 1961. After that, he worked for 40 years at the Pepperell Manufacturing Company, which later became WestPoint Stevens. He worked on the revolutionary Vellux blanket that was manufactured in Biddeford. He retired from the mill in 2001. For several years, Mr. Dion also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Andre Church in Biddeford.
On June 10, 1967, Renald married the love of his life, Jacqueline Martel at St. Andre Church. Together, they went on to raise their daughter, June.
Renald was a man who absolutely loved sports, especially New England teams. He loved the Red Sox, the Celtics, and most of all, the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and tending to his home and lawn.
He enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and friends, traveling as often as he could. He went to Hawaii, Italy, Aruba, and Vegas, as well as taking bus trips to Canada many times, and the Amtrack to Boston often.
Renald leaves behind the love of his life, wife Jacqueline Dion of 53 years, daughter June Yvonne Dion Millin and her husband Gerald H. Millin, and brother Robert R. Dion, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Leopold and Maurice Dion, as well as his sister Doris Dion-Dubois.
Renald’s family wishes to thank everyone at Hospice of Southern Maine, especially Erica, who made it possible for us to honor his wishes of coming home and to provide him comfort. We would also like to thank our family and friends who have given us their love, support and prayers during this time.

Visiting Hours will 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7th , 2020 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8th at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
