Marion Weston McPherson, 97, formerly of Danville and Hampstead, NH, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2020, in Portland, ME. She was the daughter of George W. Weston and Ruth E. Colburn, born in 1923, on the family farm in Temple, NH. Living a long and productive life in New Hampshire, Marion received her elementary education in Keene, graduated from Laconia High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of New Hampshire.

Over the years Marion was engaged in a variety of occupations. Upon her college graduation she was employed as an Assistant 4-H Club Agent in Rockingham County and later worked as an Assistant Dietitian at Phillips Exeter Academy. In 1946 she married Robert C. McPherson and became a poultry farmer’s wife and mother of 3 children living in Danville. Her career as an educator began in 1957 as a Grade 5 and 6 classroom teacher. She taught high school home economics in Salem from 1958-1966. She was hired in 1966 to serve as Home Economics Department Chairperson for the opening of Timberlane Regional High School. She was named NH Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1977. After a 26 year teaching career she retired in 1983 to her home in Hampstead.

Marion became a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church. She put her organizational skills and interest in history to work, curating and compiling albums of the church’s history. As an energetic retiree,  she traveled to many places in the world. Marion’s interest in gardening flourished and her curiosity for hand quilting expanded. She served as regional coordinator for ABC Quilts and created numerous quilts for family, friends, and neighbors, piecing each one by hand. She lived independently until 2018, when she moved to Portland, ME, to be near her family. She is survived by her 3 children, Bruce and Karen McPherson of Acton, ME, Ellen and Ray Fearnley of Rochester, NH, and Brian and Jayne McPherson of Scarborough ME; eight grandchildren; Rob McPherson, Ryan McPherson, Ian McPherson, Caitlin McPherson, Abbie Frank, Andy McPherson, Charlene Fearnley, Michael Fearnley; 11 great grandchildren; sister-inlaw, Priscilla Weston, Temple, NH; many beloved nieces and nephews.

Marion was a strong believer that God put her on earth to make it a better place. Her wish to donate her body to a medical school has been fulfilled. Private services will be determined by the family.
