Mr. Leighton Murray Perry, 80, of Biddeford, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a brief illness.
Leighton was born on April 11, 1940 in Biddeford, Maine to Mr. Leighton Wildes Perry and Mrs. Phyllis Hackenberg Perry.
Leighton attended Kennebunk High School, graduating in 1958. He attended Diesel Mechanic School and business school through Texas State College. In 1958 he went on to serve his country in the United States Army, and was a heavy equipment engineer, serving time in Germany and the U.S., until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. After discharge from the Army, Leighton returned to his hometown of Kennebunkport, ME where he worked alongside his father in the family business, Perry’s Texaco for the next 20 years.
In December of 1974 Leighton married his wife Carley A. Perry in Arundel, Maine. In 1979 Leighton and Carley embarked on journey most of us only dream of, traveling throughout the United States with an R.V. They eventually settled in Kissimmee, FL where they lived for the past 40 years. In Florida, Leighton held various positions, working for a golf range, and lastly as a security guard before retiring.
Leighton was a car enthusiast and loved working on cars. He was an avid bowler and belonged to leagues at the Glen Mor Lanes in Kennebunk, ME. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports. He loved to tell stories of his youth and playing and working at the Kennebunkport Inn, the family business, or being a caddy at the Arundel Country Club, his days in the Army and many, many more stories.
Leighton is preceded in death by his parents Leighton Wildes and Phyllis Hackenberg Perry; and his wife Carley A. Perry, who passed in September 2020.
Leighton is survived by his Daughter and son-in-law Kimberley and Mark Gagne of Biddeford; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Donald Lamontagne of Waterboro; and Son, Stephen Perry and his partner, Brenda McHugh of Daytona Beach, FL, grandchildren Christopher Perry and Brandon Lamontagne; his sister and brother-in-law Sue P. and William (Bill) Vail of Searsport, ME, several nieces and nephews and cousins
Visiting Hours will 1:00-2:00p.m. on Friday, April 9th, 2021 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service will be help at Hope Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. following the visiting hours. A burial will be held following the service at Arundel Cemetery in Kennebunkport.
