Gerard Jean-Baptiste Petit

July 3, 1934 ~ April 18, 2021 (age 86)


Gerard Jean-Baptiste Petit, 86, of Saco, passed away on April 18, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born on July 3, 1934, the son of Dorilda Petit.


Mr. Petit attended local schools, graduating from St. Louis High School in Biddeford. On November 16, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lorraine (Palardy) Petit at St. Andre Church. He served his country in the Army National Guard for a total of 9 years. In addition to his military service, he worked for Oakhurst Dairy as a delivery man and then Maremont/Saco Defense as a quality control inspector until his retirement.


Mr. Petit was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed family gatherings, horseshoe tournaments, shooting pool, and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.


He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Lorraine, sons; Daniel Petit (Diane) of Biddeford, David Petit (Mary) of Saco, and Duane Petit (Monty) of Bonifay, FL, daughters; Julie Milliard of Saco, Jacqueline Gagne (Robert) of Saco, and Joy Hawthorne of Saco, as well as 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Simmone Shelton, his infant son Michael Petit, and his infant granddaughter Ansley Petit.


Visiting Hours will be held 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME, 04005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
