Carolyn (Randall) Gray, 71 of Lyman passed away on October 7th in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 11, 1945 to Madeline (Langley) & Alfred Randall. After graduating from Sanford High School in 1964, she married & raised two daughters.
Carolyn was afflicted with an aggressive case of rheumatoid arthritis early in life. The disease was not kind to her body but it could not dim her spirit, smile or strength. She was often referred to as “The strongest women I ever met!” & rarely complained of the pain she endured. When she could no longer work as a pharmacist assistant or optical technician she discovered painting. Even through this required a lot of manual dexterity she soon mastered it and produced many wonderful works of art in oil and pastel and watercolor. Carolyn was largely self-taught but did study under local artists. She was a member of Saco Bay Artists & Pastel Painters of Maine and exhibited in Wells, Biddeford, Ocean Park, the Kennebunk Library, & Chatham NJ. She also loved spending time with her friends & family, gardening, and her cats Cocoa, Mandy & Cricket.
Carolyn will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years Stephen Gray, two daughters, Caryn James & Kelley Simpson, two sisters, June Reichert & Mary Fletcher, two grandchildren, Elecia Simpson & Randy Meier, her very dear friends, Elaine Dube, Carol Nightingale, Laura Randall & Suzanne Rokowski, Aunt Betty Walker and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life & display of her art will be held in the spring.
