Birth Date: Mar. 24, 1925
Death Date: Jul. 08, 2012
Yvaine “Van” Deshaies, 87 of Saco and formerly of Biddeford died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Southridge Living Center in Biddeford and is now reunited with her parents whom she cared deeply for. She was born in Biddeford on March 24, 1925, the daughter of Alcide and Rose Anna Belliveau Dubois and was educated in Biddeford schools.
Mrs. Deshaies worked 11 years with Allied Hampshire and 16 years with John Roberts, Inc. of Biddeford retiring in 1990.
Van was a resident of Lord Pepperell Apartments in Saco. There she and Gilles enjoyed the friendship and companionship of many, participating in many activities. Van was a true “sun lover” and she looked forward to sitting on the porch on nice summer days with longime friends commenting on the day’s events and remembering days gone by.
The true measure of life is not the quantity of time spent but how you elect to live your time. Van touched the lives of many people. She was always there for her children and for anyone who asked (and at times for those who did not ask) for her help. She will always be remembered for her kindness and caring.
Van dearly loved her family that included her sons Robert and his wife Elaine Deshaies of Dayton, ME and Roger and his wife Fran Deshaies of Tucson, AZ. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren Scott and his wife Sara, granddaughter Karen Deshaies and grandson Timothy Deshaies who predeceased her in 2006. The addition of great-grandchildren Takara and Isaiah Wright, Nathan, Melanie, Alex and Caroline Deshaies added a smile to her heart and offered another reason to add to her immense collection of photographs. Her life was made whole thanks to her partner for the past forty plus years, Gilles Toutant, a man without whom the quality of her life would not have been possible.
Visiting hours will be 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford. Donations in Van’s memory may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, Inc., P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094 or to a charity of your choice. My deepest sympathy to the family. Your mom and my mom are first cousins, my mom will miss the phone calls where they would talk for hours catching up on each others lives a few times a year. Please know she will be in our prayers!

So sorry for the loss of your mother. I always enjoyed seeing her when she would come to the nursing home to visit my mother. It was so much fun just listening to the two of them talking about the" good ole days". May she rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy to the family. She was a very special lady. I will miss her terribly.
(Condolences will be posted after approval by our staff. Thank you for your patience.)
