Paul E. Lachance, 85, of Biddeford died Thursday morning, July 5, 2012 at his home after a long illness with his family by his side. He was born in Biddeford on November 26, 1926 the son of Adelard J. and Aurore Petrin Lachance and was educated in Biddeford schools.

In 1943 at the age of 17 Paul wanted to join the Navy but his mother would not sign for him to join. In 1944 he was drafted into the US Army. On the day he was to be inducted the Navy needed bakers. Since he had worked at Reillyís Bakery in Biddeford he was sent to report the the US Navy. He served on the USS Midway during World War II and served with honors.

On June 5, 1948 he married Gertrude Gagnon in St. Marie Church in Manchester, NH

Paul was a life long member of St. Joseph Church of the Good Shepherd Parish where he spent countless hours volunteering as an Alter Server, Eucharistic minister and later taking Communion to home bound parishioners. He worked many hours setting up and breaking down tables for the Funeral Luncheon Program.

He was a member of the Camp Ellis Rod & Gun Club in Saco and the Sportsmanís Alliance of Maine. He loved hunting and fishing and he spent most of his free time doing what he loved. He seemed to be at peace when in the woods. He loved traveling, but most of all he loved his family. Babies always put a smile on his face.

Paul was predeceased by 1 brother, Lucien Lachance & 3 sisters, Rita Dionne, Aline Haskell & Madeleine Mulderig

Lucille Lamirande & husband Michael of Biddeford
Louise Lachance & her fiance Robert McDowell of Biddeford

3 sisters: Laura Carrier of Saco
Lucy Leblanc of Shapleigh
Claurette Fecteau & her husband Ralph of Biddeford

6 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews

Visiting hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Hope Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 14, 2012 at St. Joseph Church of the Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005.
