Birth Date: Dec. 15, 1929
Death Date: Jul. 05, 2012
Jennie M. Raymond, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep at midnight July 6, 2012. She had lived a quiet, dignified life as a wife and mother.
Jennie was a resident of The Monarch Center of Saco, an assisted living facility. She had previously lived at 6 Pinewood Circle, Biddeford. Jennie was widowed in 2005.
A life-long Maine resident, Jennie was born Dec. 15, 1929, to Gerald and Geraldine (Michaud) Paradis in St. Agatha, where she attended school. She married Ernest Raymond of Fort Kent in December 1947. The couple raised five children: Bryan, Ella, Patricia (St. Pierre), Robert, and Christine (Redlon).
Jennie lived most of married life in Scarborough where she treasured the time at home to raise her family. Her husband worked at the St. Louis Home for Boys and Girls, just down the street.
She enjoyed cooking, especially, her stuffed cabbage and chicken stews for an appreciative family. Over the years --- in the face of good-natured protests ---she always credited her kids for better versions of her signature recipes. She loved sewing and reading her favorite books about the American Wild West.
Some of her most enduring memories were of trips with her husband to New York City and Washington, D.C. During one visit to the Big Apple, she drew raves for her Jitterbug dancing, moving as though she owned the glitzy Manhattan ballroom floors. On one occasion she attracted the attention of a Rockettes talent scout who offered an audition to join the precision dancers at Radio City Music Hall. Although flattered, the mother of two demurred in favor of motherhood. Her family now has seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Of her two sisters and five brothers, a sister, Jeanine (Gandy), and four brothers, David, Donald, Jerry, and Richard, survive. Jennie's passing follows her brother, Clifford, in 1998 and sister, Geraldine (Beaulieu), in June.
A Memorial Mass, will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wed., July 11, at St. Anne's Chapel in St. Joseph’s Church, 178 Elm St. Biddeford. Fr. Renald Labarre will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 120 West St. Biddeford.
