Ralph T. Chenard of Biddeford, Maine, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by the love and support of his family.
Preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Mary Tarpy Chenard, Ralph’s family has been the focus of his heart each day. Ralph was the son of Henry and Blanche Chenard of North Kennebunkport, Maine. Ralph was the second youngest of 11 children born to Henry and Blanche Chenard: Paul, Conrad, Mark, Robert, Raymond, Claire (Dube), Pauline (Hevey), Lucien, Roland, and his surviving brother David Chenard of Sandwich, MA.
Ralph is the father of Kathy Lambert of Biddeford and Ellen Rodman of Arundel. Along with his two daughters are their loving spouses, Alphee Lambert and Jeff Rodman. His grandchildren Erin Parda, husband Brian, children Colin and Charlotte of Concord, NH; Jennifer Larochelle and her partner Nicholas Legere of Sanford; Allyson Lambert and her partner Michael Guay of Alfred,; Jordan Fields and his fiancee Samantha Curr of Portland and Jonathan Fields of Arundel. In addition to Ralph’s immediate family he had the blessings of many nieces, nephews and their loved ones.
Ralph served his country in the US Army and went on to become a successful entrepreneur beginning at the Saco-Lowell Shops here, and later worked at Raytheon Corp in Andover, MA, three years with Portland Copper, and 12 years at Diaphram Industries, Inc. in Portsmouth, to founding partner of Palmer-Chenard Industries in Somersworth, retiring in 1993.
Ralph and his wife Mary were actively involved in St. Mary’s Parish in Biddeford where he served as President of the Parish Council and Chairman of St. Mary’s Cemetery Committee.
A gifted athlete in his youth, he enjoyed local and professional sports and following the many activities of his grandchildren.
Ralph was a man of devout faith and never ending humor which are the gifts he leaves with all who knew him.
Celebrations of Ralph’s life will be observed with a visitation on Sunday, December 10th from 2:00 until 5:00 pm at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford and with a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 11th, 10:30 am at St. Martha’s Church/Holy Spirit Parish in Kennebunk. His dear friend and former Pastor, Father John Allen, of the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, OH will be the principal celebrant. Rite of Commital and Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Biddeford.
