Nicholas McGowan Sanford, 35, of Saco died on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in Saco. He was born on December 18, 1981 to Robert Sanford Jr. and Susan Sanford in Portland.
He attended Saco schools and graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 2000. After graduation Nick attended The University of Southern Maine for 4 years before leaving school.
He started a career in the auto business in late 2004 with Prime Toyota. His knowledge of computers and love of autos helped him learn fast and excel, landing promotions to head the parts department. For the past two years he worked for Lee Toyota and was recently promoted again to Part Manager. Nick enjoyed his work and especially his co-workers with whom he shared many close friendships over the years.
But for Nick, music and guitars were his passion. When Nick delved into something it was full force.
He received his first guitar for Christmas at age 9 and his life changed forever. After taking lessons and practicing incessantly for hours in his room alone, Nick came out of his shell and not only changed his life but the lives of so many people since then.
He learned from, played with, taught, and mentored countless people. Nick owne over 200 guitars over the years. He played in bands at big venues such as Meadowbrook Pavilion in New Hampshire and opened for the band Queensryche in Portland.
But more important for Nick was his family. He was a loving father and his children adored him. In 2010 his son Kaycen was born and he formed a special bond with him. Nick found a special person in his life upon meeting his wife Kayla with whom he shared many interests. They fell in love, bought a home and married on October 4, 2014. Nick cared for Kayla’s family, especially Devynn and Gregory whom he loved deeply and it showed. He was so into their lives in every aspect.
Nick was a caring person who always put others first whether it was family, friends, co-workers or first acquaintances, almost to a fault.
