Gertrude Jeanette Cough, 89, of Lyman died on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. She was born on April 7, 1928 to Joseph Sylvane and Mary Delia (Babine) Surette in Stoneham, MA. She moved to Maine in 1974 for a few years before moving back to Mass. Then in 1977 she moved to Lyman.
On December 24, 1971, she married Michael Cough in Winchester, MA. They spent 33 years together until his death in May of 2004.
Gertrude always kept busy, whether it was tending to her garden or canning her harvest. She also loved the outdoors, her and Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing together.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Richard Surette; and one sister, Margarite Perry.

Judy Jones of Plaistow, NH
3 stepsons: Pat, Jimmy and Denis Cough
1 sister: Bernadine Doran of Redding, MA
6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Rd., Kennebunk, ME 04043. Burial will be in Bar Harbor at a later date. At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
