Donald R. Maloy, 90, of Old Orchard Beach, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the home of his daughter, Diane. He was born June 16, 1927 in Portland, Maine, a son of LT (Jack) & Delida (Babineau) Maloy. Beginning his education in Dresden, Maine, he came to Biddeford in 1943, where he graduated from Biddeford High School in the class of 1945. Donald entered the United States Marine Corps immediately after high school and served in the Pacific Theater and spent one year in China with the US Consulate in Peking (Bejing) China. During the Korean War he served four years with the United States Air Force. In 1955 Donald enlisted in the Maine Air National Guard, and in 1959 he became a full time Air Technician. He served in that position until 1985, when he retired as a senior master sergeant (E-8) after thirty-two years of military service.
For the next twenty- nine years Donald was involved in driving and providing escort cars for the movement of oversized material and equipment. He owned and operated Maine Escort Service for sixteen years and continued to work with the new owner because he wanted to stay busy. He really enjoyed working with the people that he had been associated with for so many years. Donald was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Biddeford-Saco Elks.
He liked hunting and fishing and really enjoyed his trips each year up Maine. Donald collected stamps and appreciated all types of music. He also collected license plates, having at least one from all fifty states and Maine license plates from 1913 to the present year.
Donald is survived by two daughters, Linda A. Maloy and Diane R. Maloy, both of Old Orchard Beach, and four grandchildren, Malory Petersen, Erik Petersen, Benjamin Pinette, and Emily Pinette, and his son-in-law “Chummy.”
Visiting Hours will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A .funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12 noon.
